Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 (Oceanside, Calif.) In sunny, 80-degree weather at Willow Springs International Raceway, Crawford Performance marked a huge day at the October 10th SubieFest 2009. Exhibiting their own vehicles and contributing performance engineering to other teams, Crawford Performance sponsored six cars in the weekend event sponsored by SubieSport Magazine.
Highlights from the weekend included a first place finish and SubieFest track record by LIC Motorsports in the Unlimited Time Attack-sponsored 2004 Subaru STI driven by Dr. Russ Warr. The car featured a Crawford S3RL-i short block, CP35R turbo kit and engine management tuning by Crawford Performance and finished with a new Subie Fest track record with a 1:22.519, demolishing the previous year''s record by over 6 seconds. History books say only one other Subaru Time Attack vehicle has gone faster at WSIR, Crawford Performance‘s car driven by Tarzan Yamada.
Stephan Verdier garnered cheers from the crowd for his daredevil demos in the Formula Drift Car, which had just returned from a round six Formula D win. Like Warr''s LIC Motorsports car, Verdier''s vehicle houses an S3L-i short block, Crawford Performance CP35R turbo kit and engine management tuning by Crawford Performance. On deck and sporting a Crawford Performance short block and new scoopless hood was Ferdie Ang of South Coast Subaru.
The Crawford Performance Stage 2 - 2008 Subaru STI was a huge success at SubieFest. Michele Abbate of the Subaru Las Vegas Flat Four Community ran the Stage 2 STI for virtually every second of the day, blasting through almost two tanks of gas on Oct. 10th. Another Crawford 2008 Stage 2 package also contributed to a second place finish for Kevin Tidwell in the 2008 Project STI Street Class car. Running strong all day, impressing spectators and fans, the car''s performance was enhanced by its Crawford Stage 2 package, containing down pipe, air/oil separator, and a Stage 2 ECU map. Abbate''s and Tidwell‘s car also ran the Gymkhana exhausts which sheds nearly 20 pounds compared to stock.
Three lucky drivers had a unique driving experience in the Crawford Performance Time Attack car (car pictured above). This car is fitted with a sequential gearbox from KAPS Transmissions. With Tarzan Yamada unable to attend the event, Crawford invited some top drivers and racing enthusiasts to take the wheel of the Time Attack Car and get a feel for what Crawford calls ''Tony the Tiger.'' Crawford‘s driving instructor Dr. Russ Warr took Thomas Smith of the Subaru Flat Fours and Las Vegas Subaru, Ferdie Ang of South Coast Subaru and the SCS Team, and Crawford''s sponsored drifter Stephan Verdier from Formula Drift for a spin on the track. Then each driver got to grab the wheel for a few hot laps on his own, to see and feel the Crawford Performance difference and why they should strive to get behind the wheel of a Crawford Performance vehicle. All drivers were loved using the sequential gearbox and was the talk of the pits at the last time attack event. This gearbox is using the latest computer upgrade and carbon fiber shift lever from KAPS Transmissions that sure turned a few heads.
